Dow JonesAs Senior Vice President, strategy & business development, Simon Alterman is responsible for the strategy of the Enterprise Media Group and for finding business opportunities and acquisitions that offer the best potential for future profitable growth. His global team also provides research and market intelligence to support the group's current and future markets and manages EMG planning.
Prior to this, Mr. Alterman was vice president, content, for Factiva, the former joint venture between Dow Jones and Reuters, where he was responsible for Factiva's content strategy, the acquisition of rights from publishers and the consultancy work of Factiva's Taxonomy Services Group. A member of the executive team since the formation of Factiva in 1999, he also held responsibility at different times for content operations, product development, business development, and consultancy operations.
Mr. Alterman began his career as a journalist at Reuters in 1980 and spent the next 17 years in a variety of editorial roles in Mexico, Chile, Spain and Belgium. He moved to Geneva in 1977 as Marketing Manager for business information products, financial news and television in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and was later appointed director, corporate and media business development, responsible for the media, new media and corporate information businesses in the region.
A graduate of Cambridge University with a degree in modern and medieval languages and linguistics, he speaks French and Spanish fluently and Polish badly.
